Australian tax invoice requirements
The seven things an Australian GST tax invoice must show (ATO), plus the rule for sales of $1,000+.
A GST-registered business in Australia must provide a tax invoice for a taxable sale of more than $82.50 (including GST), or whenever a customer asks. For sales under $1,000, the tax invoice must show seven things.
- The words "Tax invoice"
- The seller's identity (business name)
- The seller's ABN (Australian Business Number)
- The date the invoice was issued
- A description of the items sold, including quantity and price
- The GST amount — or a statement such as "Total price includes GST"
- The extent to which each sale is taxable
- For sales of $1,000 or more: also the buyer's identity or ABN
Verified against the ATO (Tax invoices, GST). Confirm current ATO guidance for your situation.
