Common weekly schedules
Gross-pay estimate before taxes and deductions. Daily pay assumes a five-day workweek.
Detailed breakdowns with after-tax pay
These three pages go further than the calculator: 2026 federal take-home pay, how the figure compares with the US median and mean wage, and the freelance rate that matches it.

How to use the calculator
- Hourly wage / Annual salary
- Pick the direction. Switching keeps the current result, so you can flip between the two views of the same pay.
- Hours per week
- Your usual paid hours. Full-time is normally 40; use your real figure for part-time or a 4-day week.
- Weeks per year
- Leave 52 if your time off is paid. If you take unpaid weeks — common for freelancers and seasonal work — enter only the weeks you are paid for.
- Results
- Biweekly is every two weeks (26 paychecks a year). Daily assumes a five-day week. All figures are gross, before tax.
The formulas
- Annual = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year
- Hourly = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year)
- Monthly = annual ÷ 12 · Biweekly = annual ÷ 26 · Weekly = annual ÷ weeks per year
Worked example
A freelancer billing $28.00 an hour for 32 hours a week, taking 4 unpaid weeks off, works 48 weeks: $28.00 × 32 × 48 = $43,008 a year. That is $3,584 a month (÷ 12) or $1,654 every two weeks (÷ 26). Leave the schedule at 40 × 52 and the same rate shows how much a full-time year would gross — the gap is the cost of the shorter schedule.

Frequently asked questions
How many working hours are in a year?
Payroll uses 2,080 by convention: 40 hours × 52 weeks. The real calendar differs slightly — 2026 has 261 weekdays, which is 2,088 hours at 8 hours a day — before holidays and time off.
Is biweekly the same as twice a month?
No. Biweekly means every two weeks, which is 26 paychecks a year. Twice a month (semimonthly) is 24 paychecks, so each semimonthly check is a little larger than a biweekly one on the same salary.
Should I use 52 weeks if I take vacation?
Yes, if your vacation is paid — you are paid for all 52 weeks. If your time off is unpaid, as it usually is for freelancers and contractors, enter only the weeks you actually bill.
Are these numbers before or after tax?
Before tax. For after-tax figures see the detailed breakdowns above, which apply the 2026 federal brackets, or estimate self-employment tax with the 1099 tax calculator.
Method and data sources
The calculator uses only the amount and schedule you enter. The default full-time assumption is 40 hours a week for 52 weeks (2,080 hours a year). Wage comparisons should be checked against current BLS occupational data.
